PLEASE LOOK FOR OUR EMAIL LATER THIS WEEK ABOUT HOW HOW 2012 AT RPL POKER IS SHAPING UP AS OUR BEST YEAR EVER!

OK, as we wind down an exciting 2011 of poker play, we are looking forward to rolling out our plans for 2012, which include an exciting schedule of awesome Mega Tournaments as well as a great line-up of nightly games.  Thanks again for all of your wonderful support this past year, you have become in so many ways our family, see you all on the felt.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ - How Can We Make Sure That RPL Poker Continues To Flourish?

Now that we have worked hard to put an awesome poker line-up in place, how can we make sure that poker flourishes in the years to come?  Funny you should ask, actually the # 1 reason that bars and restaurants give us for cancelling poker programs is that the players do not support the bars enough while they are playing poker.  In fact, sadly we hear it virtually every day of our existance!  For example, we just recently finished a championship game where 40 players were involved in the big game, and the bar gave a generous Visa Gift Card as well as other restaurant gift cards to the winners.  Yet the overall food and beverage sales for this evening of play there were just $180.  After the game, some players were still complaining about not getting enough gifts and prizes, even though the bar lost money that night!

Nobody understands more than us how bad these economic times are.  The fact is, however, that some of our bars offer food specials that make it nearly as affordable to eat there as it would be to prepare a meal at home, such as some very low priced burger and sandwich specials!

So it's time for some good old fashioned honest and blunt talk!  We sincerely hope that we do not offend anyone by these remarks, but they are honest and really need to be expressed, sorry!

For those of you who already do great in supporting our bars and restaurants while playing poker, thank you so much, you are doing your part to keep poker programs going (and we also know and understand how frustrating it must be for you to watch those who don't support the bars actually collect prizes on some nights, sorry!).

For those of you who think it's acceptable to come out to the bars, play poker and order virtually nothing, you need to know that you are doing great damage to our programs, and can be the cause for poker program cancellations.  We have had this sadly happen to us too many times in the past.  So, when you play poker for an entire night and order virtually nothing from the bar, the bar owners frequently notice that and let us know about it by ridiculing us!  To say the least, it makes us look really bad and ruins the image that others who do support the bars are trying to create and sustain.

Also, just so you know, why has RPL, in conjunction with our bar owners, adopted the policy of our 2nd chance re-entry satellite games?  The answer, to help with the overall bar food and drink sales for the evening.  By having players stay around and play in a meaningful satellite game, the bar owners are hoping to increase their food and drink sales, it's as simple as that, a matter of economics!

Please note that all of our bars are now adopting a more generous extra chip award for those who purchase food items while playing poker.  Our next step after this is to stipulate that in order to qualify for a prize award at nightly games, a food or drink item will have to be ordered - this policy is not yet in place but may be adopted sometime in the future.

Again, thanks so much to all of our great players who do their very best to support our bars and restaurants while playing poker, which is most of you!  We know that during these very tough economic times this is a difficult thing for you to do.  If we all work together and do our part, which is the best that we can do, we can realize that amateur poker is still a very affordable entertainment value.  With your kind support we can keep our poker programs going so Lee & I do not have to find new places for us to play!

We feel that now is the time to reaffirm the specific rules of play for our Venue Championship Games, since the prize package giveaways will be reaching an all time high this year.  In that regard, there are 3 possible scenarios for Venue Championship Play, so we will describe below the specifics of each of these scenarios.  It is our policy that in order for a player to participate in a Venue Championship Game, they must have played in a minimum of 5 events at that bar, as shown on our finalized 13 week Attendance Report that is present at each of our Venue Championship events.  The only exception to this rule is shown in Scenario 3 below.

RPL's 2011 Venue Championship Game Rules

Scenario 1 - Bar Sponsors Just One Game Per Night When a bar sponsors just one game per night, that means that we will have time for just one round of Venue Championship Play at that bar.  Therefore, there will be no opening round of play for that Championship Game.  Instead, all players who make the final Top 10 for that bar will receive an extra 5,000 poker chip in addition to the chips that they earned for their specific finish within the Top 10.  For example, if a player finished 3rd in the Top 10, then they would receive the standard 10,000 in starting chips, plus 4,000 for finishing 3rd and 5,000 for actually finishing in The Top 10, for a total starting chip count of 19,000 (as opposed to the starting chip count of just 10,000 for a player who had at least 5 attendances but did not finish in the Top 10).  Additionally, each Top 10 player will be placed in a preferential starting seat for making the Top 10.  This policy is designed to give Top 10 players a decided edge for the big championship game over those players who did not make the Top 10.

Scenario 2 - Bar Sponsors Two Games Per Night When a bar sponsors two games per night, that means that we will have two rounds of play during the Venue Championship Tournament.  During the 1st round, all players who have a minimum of 5 attendances during that cycle but did not make the Top 10 are placed at tables with at least 4 other players to participate in a Qualifying Round Of Play.  During this round of play (the time is to be defined by the TD at the event), each table will play until they have produced a winner for that table.  Each table winner will advance to the 2nd round of play with a 10,000 starting stack of chips to play against the Top 10.  Please note that a TD may decide to take more than one player from each table to advance to the 2nd round of play.  Please also note that all players who advance to the 2nd round of play (with the exception of the Top 10) do so with a starting stack of chips of 10,000.  The Top 10 players get a bie in the 1st round of play, but are encouraged to get to the bar at the same time as the non-Top 10 players.  They can then play in a "warm-up event" (where the Top 10 will also join players who did not have the necessary 5 attendances for that cycle but still want to play in a game that night).  During this warm up game, the Top 10 player who finishes with the highest amount of chips will receive 3,000 extra chips for the 2nd round of play, and the Top 10 player who finishes with the 2nd highest amount of chips will receive 2,000 extra chips for the 2nd round of play.  The 2nd round of play will pit the Top 10 players against the non-Top 10 players who won their qualifying round table.  Non Top 10 players all start this 2nd round of play with 10,00 in starting chips.  Top 10 players will begin the 2nd round of play with 10,000 in starting chips plus be awarded what chips they earned for their specific Top 10 finish (for example, if a player finishes 3rd, then they will receive 10,000 in starting chips plus 4,000 for finishing 3rd for a starting stack of 14,000.  Additionally, each Top 10 finisher will receive a preferentail starting seat at the table.  These policies are designed to give Top 10 finishers a decided edge for their Venue Championship Game play.

Mega- Tournaments - Bars/restaurant will be sponsoring these unique tournaments that give our players the opportunity to hone their big tournament skills as well as earn triple points for final table appearances - this will include our monthly Dover Downs RPL Mega Tournaments.

Scenario 3 - Players decide to allow other players who did not have the necessary 5 attendances a chance to play in the Venue Championship Game - In case some players show up on Venue Championship Game night who do not have the necessary 5 attendances to play in the Venue Championship Game, the TD may offer the qualified players the opportunity to allow these players to play in the game, with the stipulation that all players who do have the necessary 5 attendances an extra 5,000 chip (in addtion to all of the other chips that they would receive as outlined above).  For example, if a player came in 3rd in the Top 10 and the bar is having 2 rounds of play fcor their championship event, and the players decide to allow players in who did not have the necessary 5 attendances, then that player would receive 10,000 in starting chips, plus 4,000 for finishing 3rd, plus 5,000 for having at least 5 attendances.  Please note that in order for Scenario 3 to take place, the TD must have the express approval of 100% of all players on hand that night who have at least 5 attendances and are qualified to play in the Venue Championship Game.

These Vennue Championship Game Rules are in effect for the balance of play in 2011, or unless superceded by other properly announced rule changes.  Good luck everyone, see you on the felt.
